My first blog post

Well, I finally did. I self-published my very first original work. What an adventure. What an ordeal. And what a tremendous feeling of satisfaction!

Now, if I could only sell a few copies…

I’ll be honest. When I first started to write “Sempiternus,” my motivation was not to pen a best-seller, make millions, and sell the movie rights to a major Hollywood studio (although all of those things would have been awesome). My motivation was creating a legacy. You see, I am now 63 years old. I know that I’ve already lived the majority of my life. I simply wanted something that would be around long after I’m no longer here. A reminder, as it were, that I left something behind when I finally leave this Earth.

I have three grandchildren. They range in age from two to ten. I never knew my paternal grandparents – they both died long before I was born. Ditto my maternal grandmother. My maternal grandfather I knew…sort of…but he died, at age 90, when I was 14. We weren’t exactly close. To this day I only have the fuzziest of recollections of him. Now, I don’t see my grandkids very often – with me in California and them in Ohio I’m lucky to spend a week or two with them every year. I don’t want them to struggle to remember me when I am gone – and, with a book that I WROTE, they will have something concrete to point to – something that they can tell their children, “Your great-grandfather was an author, and wrote this book.”

Mission accomplished. My legacy is secure.

Now, on to the next book!

(Yes, I have a couple of good ideas – more on that later)
